About me

Since I was about seven years old, I knew I wanted to be a teacher.  I loved playing school with neighborhood friends. Putting those star stickers on papers was so much fun!  The endless hours playing on the chalkboard with different colored chalk still lingers in my memory.

I started my career teaching at the elementary level.  I taught fourth grade and also was a literacy interventionist.  I worked with elementary students for eight years. Then, I decided to work with middle school students. I’ve taught all five core subjects – reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. I also was a literacy interventionist for grades six, seven, and eight for nine years.  The best and most integral part of my job is scaffolding students with questions and strategies. This is really getting at the heart of strategic reading and thinking. After seventeen years working with middle school students, I decided to change it up. I currently am an elementary literacy interventionist. I was anxious to get back to teaching students how to read using sound boxes, magnetic letters, and other manipulative to help students strategically figure out words. I am looking forward to sharing my ideas and reading activities with you.
